If you’re not Australian, Scottish or an Ausssie Rules fan, you probably don’t care a whit. But one day Brs Flounder, Eel, Kipper, Garfish were driving to the beach, when this great conundrum emanated from the ether. “Who the far Kurnel was St Kilda?”
Well that took several weeks to resolve.
St Kilda is a suburb of Melbourne, named after a ship that used to visit to replenish supplies around the 1850’s called “The Lady of St Kilda” – so far so good.
The ship was named after an island in the outer Hebrides near Scotland called St Kilda.
Yeah… and?
The island was part of a group called “Skildir” which apparently is an old Norse word meaning “shield” , due to the shape of the group, which the Norse probably used to sneak up on the Scots when they (the horn helmets) were on an bit of R and P.
Now as fate would have it, around the Middle Ages, the first traceable member of the SMB group, Brother Flakey aka known as ‘Cartographer – Not”, was redrawing the map of Scotland and in common parlance, effed up and put a dot (full stop or period) in the word to make it look like S.Kilda. Thus the untraceable saint was born.
Answer: There is no Saint Kilda. If you don’t believe me google it.
If there was one he or she would fit between:
St Kigwe
whose feast day is February 8
A Welsh saint, sometimes called Ciwg, Cuick, Kewe, or Kigwse. Nothing is known about her, and she is often identified with St. Ciwa. Kigwe is venerated in Gwent, Wales.

You’d be a bit browned off having made it to saint and be patron saint of SFA.
and:
St. Kilian
An Irish monk, St. Kilian was consecrated Bishop, went to Rome with eleven companions in 686, and received permission from Pope Conon to evangelize Franconia (Baden and Bavaria). He was successful, with two followers – Colman, a priest, and Totnan, a deacon – in his missionary endeavors until he converted Gosbert, Duke of Wurzburg, who had married Geilana, his brother’s widow.
According to legend, while Gosbert was away on a military expedition, Geilana is reputed to have had the three missionaries beheaded when she found that Gosbert was going to leave her after Kilian had told him the marriage was forbidden by the Church. His feast day is July 8th.

Bad move Killy….
